Yesterday, NPR published this article – it highlights major impacts that would happen if Congress decides to make cuts to medicaid.
“Medicaid pays wages to caregivers — friends, family members, or professional caregivers — who help with essential needs.
Reducing Medicaid services “would have profound effects on their health,” says David Grabowski, health economist at Harvard Medical School. “These are services they need every day to bathe themselves, dress themselves, get themselves to the kitchen.” Cuts could lead to hospitalizations, emergency room visits, and in some cases early death, he adds.
What would happen to the “4.5 million chronically ill or elderly people in the United States (that) get care at home”, including our clients? How would they get the care they need?
Cutting medicaid means putting our client’s lives at risk. Like stated in the article, medicaid cuts could mean early death for many… it is so sad that one of the most needed programs is on the chopping block.
